International Day of Peace

Chester County Peace Movement’s International Day of Peace, “Peace Day,” will take place Friday September 21st from 6:30PM to 7:30PM on the steps of historic Chester County Courthouse on the corner of High and Market Streets in West Chester Borough. The event is rain or shine and includes a line-up of speakers including local elected officials, musical performances and a candlelight vigil.

The United Nations established Peace Day in 1981 as an annual observance of global non-violence and ceasefire. The theme for this year’s Peace Day is, “The Right to Peace – The Universal Declaration of Human Rights at 70!” The Universal Declaration of Human Rights, drafted by representatives with different legal and cultural backgrounds from all regions, was adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in Paris on December 10, 1948.
