Mayor Lillian L. DeBaptiste

Mayor Lillian L. DeBaptiste was first sworn into office on January 3, 2022. Following her recent reelection,  she will be sworn in for her second term on January 5, 2026.

Duties and Responsibilities of the Mayor

In the Borough of West Chester, the mayor is an elected official who serves a 4-year term, with a two-term limit.

 Key responsibilities of the office include:

    Public Safety:  Overseeing the Police Department through the Police Chief.

    Legislative Role:  While the mayor does not generally vote on legislative matters, they maintain the power to veto ordinances, break tie votes, and participate in all council meetings.

    Ceremonial Duties:  Represents the Borough at public events and local functions.

    Wedding Officiant:  Pennsylvania law allows mayors to perform marriage ceremonies.
