Council Accepting Applications for Appointments to Commissions
Borough Council is accepting applications for volunteer positions with the following of its Commissions:
The Historical Commission is a newly created Commission of Council, and has seven (7) openings. The Historical Commission role is to foster awareness and appreciation of the Borough of West Chester’s heritage as expressed through its people, culture, institutions, and architecture; to identify and advocate for the preservation of historic resources, particularly those threatened by neglect and demolition; and to provide information and advice to the public, Borough, County, and Commonwealth. It is expected that the Historical Commission will meet monthly. Initial terms will be staggered, to a maximum of four (4) years.
The Public Arts Commission is a newly created Commission of Council, and has seven (7) openings. The Public Arts Commission role is to provide guidance, advocacy, and leadership to support the reach and impact of public art and advise Borough Council on the merits of applications for the creation of public art in the Borough of West Chester. The majority of the members are residents of the Borough of West Chester; two members are artists; and one member is either an architect or urban planner. It is expected that the Public Arts Commission will meet monthly. Initial terms will be staggered, to a maximum of four (4) years.
The HARB conducts reviews of proposed building construction and/or alteration work within the Historic District. Due to a resignation, there is a vacancy to fill an unexpired term.
The Recreation Commission makes recommendations pertaining to the development, supervision, maintenance and regulation of public park and recreation areas and facilities located in the Borough. Due to a resignation, there is a vacancy to fill an unexpired term.
Those persons interested in being considered for the volunteer positions on these Commissions are required to submit a letter of interest and a copy of their resume or biography to Christine McAllister, Assistant to the Borough Manager, either via email (email@example.com) or to her attention at the Borough of West Chester Municipal Building, 401 East Gay St, West Chester, PA 19380.
Deadline for submissions is Thursday, 24 August 2017.
Interviews will be held for all four commission openings Tuesday, 29 August 2017, between 6:00- 7:30pm in Borough Council Chambers, 401 East Gay St, West Chester, PA 19380. Individuals submitting a letter of interest and a copy of their resume or biography by that deadline will be contacted to schedule an interview time.
